National Inter-faith Youth Conference

The FACE TO FAITH Team of our school represented by Ankur Jain of XI D and Yaashia Gautam of X D under the guidance of Ms. Neeta Chhabra participated in 3 day National Interfaith Youth Conference, 2011 held at Ahlcon International School Mayur Vihar from 19^th to 21^st Dec, 2011. The Conference was organized by Interfaith foundation, India in collaboration with Tony Blair Faith Foundation, UK. The team got to interact with renowned spiritual leaders from different religions and faiths. They participated very enthusiastically during the three days at the Conference. Yaashia Gautam won the I Prize for being THE MOST INTERACTIVE STUDENT AT THE CONFERENCE and her efforts were appreciated by one and all. She received a gold medal, a pen drive a certificate and a set of books as prize.On the whole it was a very enriching experience for the team and it is definitely going to help us in carrying the program to greater heights.

SCIENCE MODEL WINS NATIONAL ACCLAIM

DLDAV, Pitampura, maintained its tradition of excelling in the National level Science Exhibition with the theme ‘Green Energy’ organized by CBSE. For the fifth consecutive year, the school made it to the national level. The school models ‘Future Vehicle’ and ‘Artifical Heart’ prepared by Rajat Jain, Raunak Kakarya, Joshika and Shreya under the guidance of Dr. Rabinder Nath Kakarya and Dr. Anita Rani received much appreciation and acclaim. The model ‘Future Vehicle’ was selected from among 162 entries from India and abroad and received a cash prize of Rs.3000/- and a certificate of merit. The school Principal, teachers and students received the award from Sh. Kapil Sibal, Minister of Education and Mr. Vineet Joshi, Chairman, CBSE in a glittering award ceremony. Mrs. Nisha Peshin, Director (PS-III), DAVCMC congratulated the school team for bringing honour and glory to the DAV fraternity with their outstanding performance. Shri Shrideep Omcherri, Chairman of the school, expressed elation at the school’s scintillating achievement at national level, setting an example of perseverance, perfection and excellence. Principal, Mrs. Anita Wadehra praised the efforts of both the teachers and students.

Darbari Lal DAV Model School Pitampura participated in DAV Model United Nations Conference 2010 held on 13th, 14th,15th Nov, 2010 at DAV Public School, Gurgaon. Our School represented Spain with four delegates :

3)Divya chitkaran (XI A) in IAEA and
4)Joshika Saraf (XI A) in HRC.
Out of a total of about 100 Country Profiles submitted & displayed at the Conference, Our Country Profile for SPAIN has won the‘BEST COUNTRY PROFILE AWARD’ which includes a Shield and a Certificate of Achievement. Our student delegates participated very actively in the three day conference & were very well recognized in their respective committees. They performed under the able guidance of teacher advisors-Ms. Neeta Chhabra & Mrs. Ashok Sharma.
One of our students Kushal Garg of X B participated as Reporter- Global Press & his articles got published in the newsprint issue'TESTI MUNY' which came out daily in the three day conference.

ACHIEVEMENT
ANNUAL SCIENCE QUIZ 2010-11

Our School Quiz Team represented by Proneet Manna of X C and Pranjal Agrawal of X A participated in ANNUAL SCIENCE QUIZ organized by National Science Centre, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India. A total of 76 teams from reputed schools from Delhi and NCR participated in the Quiz. Our team performed very well in the Prelims. and got selected among top 18 schools and qualified for the semi-finals.

It was indeed a very tough quiz contest with so many good competing teams and also gave a very good exposure to our students. Our school quiz team had prepared under the able guidance and supervision of Ms. Neeta Chhabra, the Coordinator/Guide of ‘INQUIZZITIVE’, the G.K. Club of the school.

SOCIAL SCIENCE -VALUE BASED TEACHING AND LEARNING
Powerful social science teaching considers the ethical dimensions of topics and addresses controversial issues providing an arena for reflective development of concern for the common good and application of social values. Students learn to be respectful of the dignity and rights of others when interacting socially, and to emphasize basic democratic concepts and principles when making personal policy decisions or participating in civic affairs.
Topics are treated comprehensively and realistically, with attention to their disturbing or controversial aspects. Students are made aware of potential social policy implications and taught to think critically and make value-based decisions about related social issues. They learn to gather and analyze relevant information, assess the merits of competing arguments, and make reasoned decisions that include consideration of the values within alternative policy recommendations. Through discussions, debates, simulations, research, and other occasions for critical thinking and decision-making, students learn to apply value-based reasoning when addressing social problems.
The best social science teachers develop awareness of their own values and how those values influence their selection of content, materials, questions, activities, and assessment methods. They assess their teaching from multiple perspectives and, where appropriate, adjust it to achieve a better balance.
Rather than promulgating personal, sectarian, or political views, these teachers make sure that students: (1) become aware of the values, complexities, and dilemmas involved in an issue; (2) consider the costs and benefits to various groups that are embedded in potential courses of action; and (3) develop well-reasoned positions consistent with basic democratic social and political values. The teacher provides guidance to such value-based reasoning especially when it is difficult to discern the connections between core democratic values and the issues at hand, when various core values suggest conflicting policies, or when there is conflict between these core values and students’ personal or family values. When this is done most effectively, students may remain unsure about the teacher’s personal views on an issue, at least until after it has been discussed thoroughly. Students become more aware of the complexities involved in addressing the issue in ways that serve the common good, and are more articulate about their own and others’ policy recommendations and supporting rationales.
Powerful social science teaching encourages recognition of opposing points of view, respect for well-supported positions, sensitivity to cultural similarities and differences, and a commitment to social responsibility and action. It recognizes the reality and persistence of tensions but promotes positive human relationships built on understanding, commitment to the common good, and willingness to compromise and search for common good.
